Adverbs of Quantity in French

1. Followed with “de” + noun

Assez: enough
Trop: too many, too much
Beaucoup: a lot
Plus: more
Moins: less
Autant: as many, as much
Un peu / peu: a little, few

J’ai assez de pain, de tomates
Tu as trop de vin, de livres
Il a beaucoup d’amis
Je veux plus de salade
Nous voulons moins de bruit
Vous avez autant de voitures: you have a many cars
Un peu de pain: a little bread

2. But some don’t need this preposition:

Plusieurs: many
Quelques: some
Aucun,e: no

J’ai plusieurs livres
Tu as quelques fraises
Il n’a aucune idée (idée is feminine so aucune)

These adverbs need the pronoun “en” if you want to replace the noun that comes after!

I’ve got some: J’en ai quelques-unes
I have enough (of it): j’en ai assez
