Mute Letters Lessons

1. B

The letter B is at the end of the word is mute:

Plomb

Exception: Words coming from a foreign language (not French), in this case the B is said
Web, Club, Kebab, Toubib…
The same thing for the apocopes like Pub coming from Publicité.

2. C

The letter C is at the end of the word is not said:

Banc
Blanc
Franc
Escroc
Caoutchouc

Exceptions: Many
Choc, chic, Cognac, Public, Plouc (slang), Fric, Froc.

In Zinc, the C is said like a G

3. D

The letter D is at the end of the word is mute:

Nid
Sourd
Standard
Pied
Froid

Exception: Words coming from a foreign language (not French), in this case the D is said
Speed, Bled

4. F

We always pronounce it.

Exception: the plural of Oeuf is Oeufs and the F is not said.

5. G

The letter G is at the end of the word:

Poing
Bourg

Exception: Words coming from a foreign language (not French), in this case the G is said
Gag, Zigzag, Timing, Hotdog. Also noises: Ding, Bing, Dong.

6. H

The letter H is at the end or at the beginning  or even in the word:

Meuh
Ouah
Torah
Haricot
Hôtel
Bonheur
Silhouette
