the sound is “e”: je, le, petit…

At the end of the word:

1- After a vowel: nothing

un musée

2- After a consonant, we just say this consonant:

la pâte, la patte

Plural, we don’t pronounce the final “s”.

 

Between 2 consonants: depending where you live

un biberon, une boulangerie, Allemagne

 

exception:

before a “s”, a “t”, a “l”, a “c”, a “x”, “p”

veste, baguette, carnet, appel, legs, élection, sexe, septembre

messe

but blesser with é

 

è, ê: père, rêve

é: vélo

eau = o, beau

ei=é reine

eu: heure, peureux, jeu

when we pronounce the last consonant the sound is like heure.

en: beginning of a word or before another consonant: ennuyer, rendre, vendre

(before a vowel, it is the sound e: mener)

en: européen

en: chienne

em: em before a consonant at the beginning of a word, èm in a word

exception: femme

er: manger… policier

er: ouverture, terminer, dernier, mer

pied, clavier, panier, papier, rien, chien, viens
