How to say PLEASE in French

1. Singular and Informal

With a person you know, with young people, with family.

Please  S’il te plaît
Plaît is a verb coming from Plaire: to please, to like

Pierre, s’il te plaît, tu peux fermer la fenêtre ? Merci !

S’il te plaît also means no less or if you please: Pour qui elle se prend, s’il te plaît: what does she think she is, no less!

2. Plural and Informal

With people you know, with young people, with family.
This form is the plural of number 1

Please  S’il vous plaît

Les enfants, s’il vous plaît, vous venez manger ?

3. Singular (or Plural) and Formal

To show respect to people you don’t know or may be your boss…

Please  S’il vous plaît

Monsieur, s’il vous plaît, vous oubliez votre chapeau.
Messieurs, s’il vous plaît, nous allons partir.
