Ben, euh, umm, er

Ben, euh, umm, er

When you do not the reply to a question, when you are hesitant, you are not sure or you don’t know, in English you say: er.

In French:


You can mix the two words: ben, euh

à vrai dire… actually
C’est à dire que….

After listening to the reply:

1- If you agree:

Maintenant que tu le dis, bien sûr! Now that you say it, of course.

2- If you are not sure if the reply is right:

Mouais: yes
Bof: not really
T’es sûr(e)? Are you sure?
je ne suis pas convaincu! I am not convinced

3- If you disagree:

ah non, tu te trompes: no, you are making a mistake
Bien sûr que non: of course not!
