Mieux vs Meilleur in French:

Video Here!

1- In English, Well and Good have the same comparative and superlative forms: better and best.

2- In French, well means “bien” and good “bon”, but both have their own comparative and superlative forms.

- Bien -> Mieux -> le Mieux

- Bon -> Meilleur -> le Meilleur

You need to know that to be able to translate correctly English sentences with better or best:

- It’s a better book (better: good, so meilleur): ce livre est meilleur
- I feel better (better: well, so mieux): Je me sens mieux
- This book is the best: ce livre est le meilleur

Exceptions:

It’s better: c’est mieux
It’s better to tell the truth: c’est mieux de dire la vérité
Here better is an adjective and not an adverb and usually after the verb to be, we use the word “mieux”

Expressions:

- Good for you: tant mieux pour toi
